I love to get away, but now that school has started, I am in for another 9 monthes before I can really plan an entire vacation. There are such great hotel deals, they are all competing to get your business. Las Vegas is not just about gambling (although it is fun) but, it also has so many free attractions. One of my favorites is Ethel M. Chocolate Factory. You get a sample of the delicious chocolate. I got an email from Plaza Las Vegas on Fremont Street for three nights for $69, the light show downtown is awesome!

MARIOTT HOTEL DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA

MY FAMILY AND I STAYED AT THE MARIOTT DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA. THE AREA IN THE FRONT OF THE HOTEL IS REALLY LIMITED, SO IT GETS VERY CONGESTED, VERY QUICKLY. THE FRONT DESK FRIENDLY, BUT NOT OVERBOARD. WE WERE GIVEN A ROOM ON THE 22ND FLOOR. THIS HOTEL IS HUGE AND ONLY HAD FOUR ELEVATORS TO HANDLE OVER THIRTY FLOORS OF GUESTS. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND WE HAD TO WAIT A LONG TIME TO GET AN ELEVATOR THAT WASN'T ALREADY FULL OF PEOPLE. I KNOW I WAS NOT THE ONLY GUEST FEELING THIS FRUSTRATION. HOWEVER, WE WENT IN OUR ROOM, IT WAS NICELY APPOINTED. THE BEDS WERE VERY SMALL, DOUBLES I BELIEVE AND REALLY NOT VERY COMFORTABLE. THE ROOMS WERE CLEAN THOUGH AND THE BATHROOM PRODUCTS FEATURED WERE BATH AND BODY WORKS AROMATHERAPY. MY DAUGHTER DECIDED TO USE THE POOL THE FIRST EVENING WE WERE THERE, IT WAS WAY OVERCROWDED. IT STATES ON THE WALL THAT THE CAPACITY WAS 65, THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 125 PEOPLE IN THE POOL. THERE ARE NO DRAINS IN THE POOL AREA, SO WHEN THE FLOOR GETS WET FROM ALL OF THE SPLASHING, IT STANDS ON THE FLOOR. IT IS VERY SLIPPERY AND DANGEROUS. I ALMOST SLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES JUST WALKING TO MY CHAIR. OUR ROOM THAT WE WERE GIVEN WAS JUST OFF OF THE ELEVATORS AND RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE POP MACHINE AND ICE MACHINE. WHILE IT WAS VERY HANDY, WHENEVER ANYONE GOT ICE, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, WE HEARD IT. WE DIDN'T HEAR NOISE FROM THE OTHER ROOMS, WE HEARD ALOT OF CITY TRAFFIC NOISE. WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY SO WE WERE NOT USED TO THIS AT ALL. I CAN'T SAY THAT THIS ROOM WAS WORTH WHAT WE PAID, WE HAVE STAYED AT MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE HOTELS THAT WE WERE TREATED BETTER AND WE DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT A HALF AN HOUR ON AN ELEVATOR. I DON'T KNOW IF WE WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN.

Catalina Island

We recently visited Catalina Island, while on a Carnival Cruise. This was my first visit to the island. I was overcome by the beauty of the island. I had been to many islands before, but this was so natural and beautiful, it was remarkable. After the day visit to the island, I was immediately thinking about returning and bringing my children.
Catalina Island is an small island off of the coast of southern California, it is unsurpassed in natural beauty, a remarable island oasis. A Mediterranean setting with crystal clear blue waters make this island is an ideal family or romantic escape.

WHY NOT TRAVEL TO JAMAICA?

IN JAMAICA, THEY ENJOY A TROPICAL CLIMATE, CHARACTERIZED BY WARM TEMPERATURES AND HUMID CONDITIONS ALL YEAR ROUND. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE RANGES FROM 66 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT TO 99 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
THOUGH IN JAMAICA THEY ARE KNOW FOR THE WARMTH AND SUNSHINE, THEY HAVE TWO RAINY SEASONS FROM MAY THROUGH JUNE AND ALSO FROM SEPTEMBER INTO NOVEMBER.
HURRICANES MAY PASS OVER THE ISLAND DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE THROUGH SEPTEMBER.
IF IT DOES RAIN DURING YOUR VACATION, YOU SHOULDN'T WORRY MOST OF THE TIME, THE SHORT RAIN SHOWERS PROVIDE A WELCOME BREAK FROM THE TROPICAL AFTERNOON HEAT.

Carnival Paradise

The first week of June, my husband and I boarded the Carnival Paradise for a four night cruise to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.
I was hesitant to cruise, because I don't like small rooms and large crowds of people. The weather was unusually cool when we boarded, we still needed jackets. I had prepared for hot weather so we had to buy fleece jackets. Our first port was Catalina Island. I had never seen a more beautiful place in my life. We took a tour that went around the island and gave us alot of history and current information about the island. I was so impressed with the short stop at the island, I was already looking into a return visit.
Our second port was supposed to be Ensenada, Mexico. Because of the swine flu, the port was cancelled. We traveled the same route, but the ship did not go into port, they anchored out in the ocean.
Even though our port was cancelled there was more than enough to keep you busy at all times on the ship. There were shows every day and of course the casino. There was a sport deck you could walk or play minature golf.
The food was exceptional, it was like dining in five star restaurants every night. Everything I ate was delicious. The staff, from the servers to housekeeping and entertainment were awesome. Each and everyone of them went above and beyond to exceed our expectations of the cruise.

My favorite place, Cancun!

I found an auction on Ebay, six years ago. It was a person selling one of their weeks of a timeshare that they owned at Palace Resorts, in Cancun, Mexico. I was a little worried, but after looking at the Palace Resorts website, I went ahead with our trip.

We booked our all inclusive vacation at Cancun Palace over Valentines day, 2003. I was so excited to get away from the cold, snowy Iowa winters! When we arrived in Cancun, we were still wearing sweatshirts, parkas and jeans! It was so hot! It was like a totally different world! The water was so blue and beautiful! A van from the resort picked us up. Upon entering the lobby at Cancun Palace, we were greeted with glasses of champagne. It was so beautiful, everything was polished marble, it was so bright open and clean. Because we booked through one of the "members" we were given a junior suite, with a balcony and a whirlpool tub in our room! Our room overlooked the ocean, it was spectacular. We had a week to relax in this beauty, and be spoiled and pampered!
